Manresa Retreat House is nestled on the picturesque island of Gozo, ten minutes from the centre of the ancient capital, Victoria (Rabat). A peaceful, beautifully built, Jesuit-run retreat house dating back to 1810, ‘Manresa’ offers fully refurbished facilities while preserving its sound local character, with views of the blue Mediterranean sea and the charming countryside.
At Manresa Retreat House we welcome people of all denominations seeking rest and recuperation or for a retreat. Throughout the year we offer a variety of individually guided and group retreats based on the spirituality of St. Ignatius of Loyola.
We offer one day, week end, five or eight day retreats, as well as the full course of the Spiritual Exercises over a period of thirty days. These are mainly conducted in Maltese and English, however we can also offer the possibility of guidance in Italian and French.
A Parish Ignatian Ministry (P.I.M.) programme is conducted by our team which includes both Jesuit and lay collaborators.
Members of the Jesuit community resident at Manresa Retreat House are available at all times, for spiritual direction and for the sacrament of reconciliation.
Gozo is an ideal island for a retreat: with only light traffic on the roads, plenty of unspoilt countryside and a thinly populated island, the Gozitans’ blend of traditional and modern village life is visible and fascinating. It is very easy for a retreatant to go to the seaside, walk to the country or visit religious sanctuaries, especially the Sanctuary of our Lady of Ta’ Pinu, for personal prayer.
Manresa Retreat House is built around a beautiful central chapel and courtyard. Our extensive gardens with orange trees and gazebos offer peace and quiet to our guests. Ample seating outdoors and a walkway dedicated to the Way of the Cross provide opportunity for reflection.
The House’s chapel, dedicated to Our Lady of Manresa, is open to the public and Holy Mass is celebrated daily in the morning and evening. A small prayer room is available for use by retreatants. Click here for Holy Mass times.
Manresa Retreat House has thirty guest-rooms (all with ensuite facilities), sixteen of which can accommodate couples. Rooms are simple and comfortable.
The main dining hall can accommodate up to a hundred persons, while a smaller one offers quiet dining for six.
Two multi-media halls, equipped with video projectors, large screen and PA systems, can hold one hundred and twenty persons and forty persons respectively. There is another smaller conference hall overlooking the garden with a capacity of thirty persons.
A specialised library and internet service are also available.
The management of the house gives priority to retreats, seminars, prayer sessions and study days. Yet, if rooms are available those who may wish to spend some time enjoying the peace and quiet that the island of Gozo offers are most welcome visitors!
The cost for a stay at Manresa House is Euro 37 per day (full board).
