Giving the Exercises
The Centre for Ignatian Spirituality of the Society of Jesus promotes the legacy of St Ignatius of Loyola, what we call Ignatian Spirituality. For Ignatius, the Spiritual Exercises were not a monopoly of the Jesuits, but a gift of the Church and for the Church. The main task of the Centre is to make known this gift to those who may benefit from it and prepare people to give these Exercises to others in the various forms used today.
An experience open for all
Anyone can ask to experience the Exercises and to be formed to give them: Jesuits, diocesan priests, other religious, lay people. We’ve seen people from different cultural and historical backgrounds benefit from the Exercises and help others by accompanying them in a way that reflects his or her own personal and ecclesial spiritual experience.
The promotion of Ignatian Spirituality is done in various ways. We give retreats to all who ask, organise activities in parishes upon demand from the parish priests, accompany people in their journey of discernment of their way of following Christ and offer a 4-year course in Spirituality and Spiritual Accompaniment.
